Runaway teen climbs Worlds of Fun water tower, asks to speak to his school resource deputy who talks him down

It was a call that saved a teenager’s life. Kansas City, Missouri, Police were dispatched to investigate reports of a teen who ran away from home around 9:37 p.m. Wednesday. That teen was found a short time later, actively climbing the Worlds of Fun water tower in the 5000 block of North Bristol Avenue. Officials with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the teen is now receiving mental health treatment. “School Resource Deputies and Officers play such a pivotal role in kids’ lives,” said Clay County Sheriff Will Akin. “Deputy Bransfield responded without hesitation and illustrates my expectations for those who fill the role of School Resource Deputy. I’m so happy knowing the teen was safely talked down and is getting the help he needs. Great job Deputy Bransfield and to all the officers who assisted!”

The teen, who was around 115 feet off the ground, had a request for officers — call his school resource deputy so he could say goodbye.

The teen told police he only wanted to speak with Clay County, Missouri, School Resource Deputy Jonathan Bransfield.
