CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) — The 4th annual Dancing with Show Me Stars is almost here! Locals get to put on their dancing shoes all for a good cause and a fun time.

Twelve teams of local celebrities will perform Saturday at the Drury Plaza Conference Center. Normally the winner or ‘star’ picks where funds from Community Partnership of Southeast Missouri program go to, but this year the money will go to the group’s new building.

One team says they’re excited for the show.

“I just knew I wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to be involved with the community. It’s such a great way to give back and it’s just been a great experience so far,” says dancer Jessica Schmidt.

The event raises an average of $60,000 to $75,000 each year. So far, they’ve raised more than $76,000. Participants say they’ve spent weeks preparing.

“Dancing was my biggest challenge and I think we did a good job. I mean we started from scratch and we really came a long way. We put a lot of hard work into it, too,” says dancer Michael Sibert.

Organizers say they hope the event will uplift the community and bring in some fun during the pandemic.

“They’re giving a hand up, not a hand out, there’s a big difference. So being able to participate, not just to have fun and dance, but also just to help,” says April Creech.

Dancing with Show Me Stars is at the Drury Plaza Hotel Conference Center in Cape Girardeau. Doors open at 5 p.m.
