“We’ve lost a great personal friend. We’ve lost an American icon from right here in the Heartland of America. Rush was a true son of Cape Girardeau. He loves Cape and southeast Missouri. He had absolute confidence in our people. It’s a sad day, but a day to pay tribute to a great American,” he said. “Rush was a warm, personal friend. He was generous with his time, generous with his resources. There is no telling how many anonymous gifts and unknown gifts he gave to so many worthy causes, including causes right here in his hometown.”
