CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mon. (WSIL) – Two people have died after a crash on the interstate near Cape Girardeau, MO.
On Thursday, just before 3 p.m., the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded on Interstate 55 southbound to report a crash.
Police discovered that a car was heading north as it left the road, crossed the median and hit a SUV traveling south.
The driver of the car was caught and the passenger was ejected on impact.
The passenger, an 18-year-old girl from Cape Girardeau, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was released from the vehicle and taken to a local hospital because of serious injuries.
The passenger of the SUV also had to be freed and was taken to a local hospital with the driver because of serious injuries.
The passenger of the SUV, a 77-year-old woman from Galesburg, IL, later died in hospital.
The crash is still under investigation by Cape Girardeau Police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
